Course Description:
Interface design and web page structure
Graphics production for the Web
Basic/Intermediate HTML & CSS using a text editor
Instruction Method:
Some formal lecture but predominantly instructor led training on overhead projector using a text editor for html programming and a web browser to view results.

Course Objectives:
1. Have a solid understanding of the Internet and the World Wide Web and their functionalities.
2. Be able to create, edit, and link html documents using a text editor. (xhtml)
3. Be able to control and unify website styles using css.
4. Be able to create web graphics using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Image Ready.
5. Upload their personal websites and resumes to the World Wide Web using FTP.
Concerns and Disagreements:
Any concerns regarding policies or procedures of this course, as stated in this syllabus, or as they occur in class should be discussed directly with me either after class or by making an office appointment.
Attendance:
This class involves learning a scripting language. Each topic covered is foundational for the next. As a common and professional courtesy, please advice me when you will miss a class meeting when you know in advance. Platt’s attendance policy is to drop students after three consecutive misses automatically. I will strictly adhere to this policy and if you miss four classes during the semester, you will be dropped from this course.
Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the act of presenting work, either written or spoken that is not your own. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating on exams, not properly citing others’ work, or using someone else’s writing. Platt College and this instructor will not tolerate plagiarism of any sort and the penalty will be automatic failure of this course and potential dismissal from the college.
Speaking Assignment Policies:
Every student will give a formal presentation of their final website project.
Make-ups:
There will be NO make up exams or in class assignments. Ask in advance if you have a timing conflict. Emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Class Expectations:
All students will be treated fairly and with respect. Verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated. If these expectations are violated, the violator will be appropriately disciplined, which may include: a verbal warning, class suspension, expulsion from the class, and expulsion from the college.
Class Protocol: Make sure all cellular devices are turned off during class time. Due to insurance policies children are not allowed in the classroom at any time. Try not to leave the class during a lecture. As a courtesy to the speaker, please wait outside the classroom until they are finished speaking. Finally, never at any time are weapons, drugs, animals or food allowed in the classroom. If I suspect you are under the influence of alcohol or an illegal drug, you will be asked to leave class.
Class Participation:
Participation in this class is required in a variety of ways. Attendance to each class session is extremely important and will count significantly towards the points earned in this category. After one class is missed a student will be penalized 10 points or 1% of their overall grade. Having perfect attendance does not translate to 100 points in participation. Every student is expected to participate in a variety of ways including: class discussions, in class assignments, homework assignments and listening and staying engaged during each class period.
